Scientists have described a newly discovered fossil goose, nicknamed 'Old Mother Goose,' from ancient lake sediments in Central Otago, New Zealand. The find shows the species is not closely related to New Zealand's giant flightless geese as long believed, suggesting those giants actually arrived from Australia only about seven million years ago and evolved rapidly.
