Archaeologists excavating the ancient Etruscan city of Vulci in central Italy have uncovered a huge stone tomb from the late seventh century BC, called the Tomba della Camera di Pietra, or Stone Chamber Tomb. Inside, they found weapons, parts of a ceremonial chariot, gold and bronze objects, carved bone and ivory, a rare shoe, and painted pottery imported from Greece. Researchers say the discovery offers rare new insight into the wealth and customs of the Etruscan aristocracy before the site is reburied for protection until excavation resumes.
