Astronomers combined NASA's Hubble Space Telescope with NASA/ESA/CSA's James Webb Space Telescope for the first time to search for the smallest, faintest objects in the far outer solar system. The team found 27 new trans-Neptunian objects, tiny icy leftovers from the solar system's early days, with the smallest just 5 km wide. Scientists were surprised to find fewer small objects than predicted, and they still do not know how these fragile bodies kept their original chemistry for 4.5 billion years.
