Digging in the courtyard of a Paris hospital on the Ile de la Cite, near Notre Dame, archaeologists uncovered a burned wall from a Celtic fort that could be the long lost settlement of Lutetia, the town Julius Caesar's Roman army fought over in 52 BC during the Gallic Wars. Burned seeds and a Gallic spearhead support Caesar's own written account that the Gauls set fire to their own town rather than let the Romans capture it whole.
