🇮🇹 AI Italian tutor

Practice speaking Italian with an AI tutor who corrects you in real time

Quick answer

SpeakBase's AI Italian tutor, Kate, holds live voice conversations in Italian, corrects mistakes as you make them and explains each one in English. The first lesson is free with no card; Premium is $11.99 a month for daily practice, a fraction of one hour with a private tutor.

Kate is a live voice tutor. You talk in Italian, she talks back like a real person, and the moment you make a real mistake she stops, corrects it and explains why in English, then steers the conversation so you use the right form again. No scripts, no recorded phrases, no waiting for a booking.

What a lesson looks like

  • Pick a situation: 48 role-plays from ordering coffee to a job interview, or type your own (“dinner with my partner’s parents”) and Kate rehearses exactly that.
  • Talk for five to ten minutes. Kate adapts the speed and vocabulary to your level and keeps the conversation moving.
  • Every real mistake is corrected in the moment and explained in English.
  • At the end you get a recap of your mistakes with corrected phrases; they come back in later lessons until you get them right.

A real correction, as Kate makes it

Sono andato a il ristorante con la mia amico.

Sono andato al ristorante con il mio amico.

'A il' always fuses into 'al', and 'amico' is masculine so it takes 'il mio'. Kate tells you this in English in the moment, then steers the conversation so you use 'al' and 'il mio' again within a minute.

Why Italian needs a live tutor, not another app

Double consonants change the word

'Anno' (year) and 'ano' (something else entirely), 'pala' and 'palla', 'sete' and 'sette'. English speakers do not hear the difference at first and do not produce it. It is a pronunciation habit that only forms when someone stops you and makes you say it again.

Verb endings do the work of pronouns

Italians drop 'io', 'tu', 'lui' because the verb ending already says who: 'parlo', 'parli', 'parla'. To follow real speech you have to recognise endings instantly, and to be understood you have to produce them without pausing, which drills on paper never make automatic.

Prepositions that fuse with articles

'A' plus 'il' becomes 'al', 'di' plus 'la' becomes 'della', 'in' plus 'gli' becomes 'negli'. There are dozens of combinations and native speakers produce them at full speed. Learners who only read them get them right in writing and wrong out loud.

Frequently asked questions

Does Kate correct pronunciation, including double consonants?

Yes. Kate hears the difference between 'ano' and 'anno' and will stop and ask you to say it again, then explain in English how to hold the consonant. Pronunciation habits form in the first weeks, so this matters early.

How does an AI tutor compare to italki or Preply?

A human tutor on italki or Preply costs $15 to $35 an hour and needs booking. Kate is there the moment you have five minutes and costs $11.99 a month for daily practice. Many learners use Kate for daily reps and a human tutor occasionally.

Can Kate help me with Italian for family or heritage reasons?

Yes. Tell her you want to talk with your grandmother or your in-laws, and she will practice exactly those conversations: family stories, food, holidays, the phrases you will really use at the table.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. SpeakBase runs in the browser on iPhone, Android and desktop, with no app store download. You can add it to your home screen so it opens like an app.
