'Au' is 'à' plus 'le', so it only works with masculine nouns; 'boulangerie' is feminine and keeps 'à la'. Kate explains this in English as soon as you say it, then asks where else you went so you use 'à la' and 'au' again.
Why French needs a live tutor, not another app
Sounds English does not have
The French 'u' in 'tu', the nasal vowels in 'vin', 'bon', 'un', the 'r' in 'Paris'. Your mouth has never made these shapes, and reading does not teach them. They come from saying them, being told in plain English what to change, and saying them again.
Liaison and what you actually hear
'Les amis' is pronounced 'lez-ami', 'vous avez' becomes 'vouz-avez', and half the letters on the page are silent. Written French and spoken French are two different systems. Learners who have only studied text cannot follow a native speaker at normal speed until they have heard and produced real speech for a while.
Gender and agreement under pressure
'Le' or 'la', 'un' or 'une', and adjectives that change with the noun. On paper you have time; in conversation you do not, and English speakers default to the masculine. It only becomes automatic through spoken repetition with someone catching it every time.

Does the AI tutor correct pronunciation like the French 'u' and 'r'?
Yes. Kate hears pronunciation and will stop on a sound that would confuse a French listener, explain in English how to make it, and have you try again. Sounds that English lacks are the first thing to fix.
Can I prepare for a DELF speaking exam with it?
