🇩🇪 AI German tutor

Practice speaking German with an AI tutor who corrects you in real time

Quick answer

SpeakBase's AI German tutor, Kate, holds live voice conversations in German, corrects articles, cases and word order as you make mistakes, and explains in English. The first lesson is free with no card; Premium is $11.99 a month for daily practice.

Kate is a live voice tutor. You talk in German, she talks back like a real person, and the moment you make a real mistake she stops, corrects it and explains why in English, then steers the conversation so you use the right form again. No scripts, no recorded phrases, no waiting for a booking.

What a lesson looks like

  • Pick a situation: 48 role-plays from ordering coffee to a job interview, or type your own (“dinner with my partner’s parents”) and Kate rehearses exactly that.
  • Talk for five to ten minutes. Kate adapts the speed and vocabulary to your level and keeps the conversation moving.
  • Every real mistake is corrected in the moment and explained in English.
  • At the end you get a recap of your mistakes with corrected phrases; they come back in later lessons until you get them right.

A real correction, as Kate makes it

Ich gehe mit mein Freund ins Kino.

Ich gehe mit meinem Freund ins Kino.

'Mit' always takes the dative, so 'mein Freund' becomes 'meinem Freund'. Kate explains this in English the moment you say it, then asks who else you go out with so you use the dative again.

Why German needs a live tutor, not another app

Der, die, das, and the cases on top

Every noun has one of three genders, and the article changes again with the case: 'der Freund', 'den Freund', 'dem Freund'. Learners can recite the table and still say 'mit mein Freund'. The right ending only comes out automatically after it has been corrected in conversation many times.

Word order: the verb goes second, or last

In a main clause the verb sits in second place: 'Heute gehe ich ins Kino'. In a 'weil' or 'dass' clause it jumps to the end. English speakers build the sentence in English order and lose the verb. It is a speaking habit, and habits are trained out loud.

Long words and separable verbs

'Anrufen' becomes 'Ich rufe dich morgen an', with the prefix flying to the end of the sentence. Compound nouns stack meaning into one word. None of it is hard to understand on paper; producing it in real time is the skill you have to practise.

Frequently asked questions

Does the AI tutor correct German cases and articles?

Yes. 'Mit mein Freund' instead of 'mit meinem Freund' is the classic learner mistake, and Kate catches it in the moment and explains in English why the ending changed.

Which German does Kate speak?

Standard German as spoken in Germany. Tell her you are moving to Vienna or Zurich and she will point out the words that differ there.

Can I prepare for a job interview or a move to Germany?

Yes. Pick a role-play (job interview, flat viewing, doctor, office meeting) or type your own situation, and Kate will rehearse it with you in German.

How much does it cost after the free lesson?

$11.99 a month for daily practice, billed in US dollars. That is less than one hour with a private German tutor.
