Most online French tests are multiple choice, so they measure reading and guessing. This one measures the thing you actually want: whether you can hold a French conversation. What the test sounds like
Kate opens easy and adapts to you. A typical three minutes moves through prompts like these, in French:
- Tell me what you usually do on the weekend.
- You are at a bakery in Paris. Buy bread and ask what is fresh today.
- Describe a place you love and explain why.
If you are stuck, say so in English. Kate explains and moves on; struggling near the end is normal and is exactly what tells the grader where your ceiling is.
What the levels mean in French

Frequently asked questions
Is the test aligned with DELF and DALF levels?
Yes. The result uses the same CEFR bands (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1) that DELF and DALF certify, so you know which exam you are close to. It is a placement, not a certificate.
What if I cannot understand Kate?
Kate speaks slower for beginners and will explain in English when you are stuck. The test finds your ceiling, so it is normal to struggle near the end; that is the part that tells you your level.
What is in the result?
Your CEFR level, scores for fluency, vocabulary, grammar and interaction, and up to three tips in English on what to fix first. You can retest every few weeks to track progress.
