Archaeologists at Hadrian's Villa near Rome have uncovered a 1,900 year old marble inscription reading FVLGVR SVBMANIVM, rare physical evidence that ancient Romans marked exact spots struck by lightning as sacred ground. The slab, found in its original position in the site's Amphitheater area, is now helping researchers understand its connection to a nearby palace that was later partly dismantled and buried.
