Homeowner Digging a Garden Patio Finds Denmark's Largest Ever Viking Silver Hoard

A homeowner in Rebild, North Jutland, unearthed Denmark's largest Viking Age silver hoard while clearing gravel for a new garden patio, finding a clay pot packed with more than 18.5 kilograms of silver. The hoard, dating to the 10th century, holds around 700 items including silver bars, bracelets, cut hacksilver, 47 whole and fragmentary coins, and a small Thor's hammer. It is nearly three times larger than the previous record Viking hoard found in Denmark and is being studied by the National Museum of Denmark.
