
A new study led by researchers at Scripps Institution of Oceanography finds that oxygen is disappearing from oceans, lakes, and rivers worldwide at an alarming pace, threatening fish and other aquatic life and weakening natural processes that help regulate Earth's climate. Scientists say the world's oceans have already lost about 2 percent of their dissolved oxygen since the mid-20th century and warn that some of the damage could persist for centuries.
