Astronomers Find the Lightest Pair of Neutron Stars Ever Seen, Circling Each Other Every 2.4 Hours

China's FAST radio telescope found PSR J1856-0039, a double neutron star system weighing about 2.49 Suns in total, the lowest known. Its 2.36-hour orbit is shrinking just as general relativity predicts, according to a paper in Physical Review Letters.
