A Revolutionary Court in Isfahan has sentenced ten people to death over a deadly protest in January 2026, including Taraneh Rahimi, one of the first two women given a death sentence in connection with that unrest. Her twin sister was also convicted and sentenced to decades in prison, and human rights groups say the trials were unfair, with defense lawyers denied full access to the evidence. Amnesty International says at least 26 people have already been executed over the January protests, part of what it calls a wave of executions meant to punish and suppress dissent.
