Ultraviolet Light Reveals the Stripes of a Crocodile That Died 125 Million Years Ago

A cat-sized crocodile relative that sat in a Barcelona museum drawer for more than a century has given up its secrets under ultraviolet light. Researchers found preserved scales, cartilage, possible sensory organs and banded markings along the tail of Montsecosuchus depereti, which may be the oldest known colour pattern in any crocodile ancestor. The study appeared in the Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society.
