Archaeologists at Marina El Alamein, an ancient port city on Egypt's northwestern Mediterranean coast, have uncovered 18 tombs untouched since antiquity, including rock-cut burial chambers and above-ground limestone tombs. Among the finds are 24 gold funerary amulets shaped like tongues, placed in the mouths of the dead as part of an ancient burial ritual meant to help them speak in the afterlife.
