Scientists have identified a newly described fossil species, Chosha praecursor, dating back about 324 million years, making it one of the oldest insect relatives ever found. Discovered decades ago in West Texas but misidentified until now, the fossil shows a creature with both walking legs and paddle-like swimming limbs, revealing that early insects went through a long amphibious phase rather than jumping straight from water to land.
