"Onslaught," a new thriller from director Adam Wingard released by A24, opened weakly in North American theaters over Labor Day weekend, earning only about $1.8 million to $2.33 million against a $15 million budget. The film, Wingard's first movie in around two years after his hit Godzilla and Kong films, received mixed reviews and a lukewarm audience grade, and was reportedly outgrossed by a limited rerelease of the 1988 Japanese anime classic "Akira." Commentators called it one of A24's worst opening weekends ever for a wide release.
