US Hiring Slows Sharply as Only 57,000 Jobs Are Added in June

The US economy added just 57,000 jobs in June, far below the roughly 115,000 that economists expected and the slowest pace of hiring in months. The unemployment rate actually dipped to 4.2 percent, but mostly because hundreds of thousands of people stopped looking for work. The report landed the same week the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at a record high before markets shut for the July Fourth holiday.
