Astronomers have traced a high-energy neutrino detected by the IceCube Observatory in 2021 to a gravitationally lensed starburst galaxy 11 billion light-years away, nicknamed Shadow Blaster. The discovery, published in Nature Astronomy in June 2026, suggests dense star-forming galaxies may account for a large fraction of the unresolved cosmic neutrino background.
