Researchers at South Korea's KAIST have developed a spray-on powder called AGCL that reacts with calcium in blood to form a sticky gel barrier in about one second, potentially stopping severe bleeding faster than existing hemostatic treatments. Made from alginate, gellan gum, and chitosan, the powder performed well in animal tests, stayed stable for two years at room temperature, and could one day help paramedics and battlefield medics control life threatening wounds.
