Sea squirts have a special substance inside them. It is called a plasmalogen. Our bodies also make plasmalogens, but we make less of them as we get older.
Scientists at Stanford University gave this substance to old mice every day for two months. The mice got better memory. Their brains worked better. Their hair grew thicker and darker.
This test was only on mice, not on people. Scientists do not know yet if it works the same way for humans.

The compound is called a plasmalogen. Plasmalogens are a type of fat molecule that is part of the membranes surrounding our cells. They are especially common in the brain, the heart, and cells of the immune system. As people get older, their plasmalogen levels naturally go down, and low levels have also been seen in people with brain diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.
In the study, older female mice received daily doses of plasmalogens made from sea squirts for two months. The results were striking: the mice showed improved memory and learning, stronger connections between brain cells, less inflammation in the body, and even grew thicker, darker hair, partly reversing gray hair.
The scientists are careful to point out an important limit: this study was done in mice, not in humans, so it does not prove that eating sea squirts or taking a supplement would make people younger. The doses given to the mice were also much higher than what anyone would get from a normal seafood meal.

Plasmalogens are particularly abundant in the brain, heart, and immune cells, and their levels decline naturally as organisms age. Reduced plasmalogen levels have also been documented in people affected by neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, which has made the compound a subject of interest for researchers studying aging and brain health.
