Level 2 - Elementary
Aerosmith, one of the biggest rock bands in American history, have announced two comeback concerts at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. The shows are set for October 29 and November 1, 2026.
The band has not performed a full concert since September 2023. Singer Steven Tyler has been dealing with serious damage to his vocal cords, and the group cancelled its farewell tour before later announcing that it had retired from the road.
The concerts are billed as Aerosmith and Friends. The announced guests include the Black Crowes, Run-D.M.C., Heart, Billy Idol, Sammy Hagar, Slash, Duff McKagan, Jerry Cantrell, Tom Morello and Eric Church. More names are expected, and the lineup will change from night to night.
Fans also noticed something in the announcement photo. Drummer Joey Kramer appears with the band, even though he did not take part in their most recent tour. Presale tickets opened on October 8 and general sales began on October 10.

Level 3 - Intermediate
Three years after what many assumed was their last note, Aerosmith have announced a return to the stage. The band will play two nights at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, on October 29 and November 1, under the billing Aerosmith and Friends, with the veteran producer Don Was serving as music director.
The guest list reads like an index of American rock. The Black Crowes, Heart, Billy Idol, Sammy Hagar, Slash, Duff McKagan, Jerry Cantrell, Tom Morello and the country star Eric Church are all announced, alongside Run-D.M.C., whose 1986 collaboration on Walk This Way helped introduce rap to rock radio. Organisers say additional names will follow and that each evening's roster will differ, with some guests revealed only at showtime.
The absence that made this announcement necessary was medical. Steven Tyler has struggled with sustained vocal cord damage for roughly three years, a condition that forced the collapse of the group's Peace Out farewell tour and was followed by a statement that the band would no longer tour. Guitarist Joe Perry said earlier in the year that Tyler needed a full year of rest before he could begin working his voice again, and that the band was approaching the question day by day.
There was a second surprise in the promotional photograph. Drummer Joey Kramer, who sat out the band's most recent run of dates, appears beside Tyler, Perry, Brad Whitford and Tom Hamilton. Presales opened on October 8 and general sales on October 10, and demand has been predictably intense for a group that spent half a century defining the sound of American arena rock.

Level 4 - Advanced
Retirement, in rock and roll, has always been a provisional condition, and Aerosmith have now tested the elasticity of the word more thoroughly than most. Having cancelled their Peace Out farewell tour and subsequently declared that they would not tour again, the band announced two nights at the Hollywood Bowl, on October 29 and November 1, billed as Aerosmith and Friends and overseen musically by Don Was. The framing is deliberate: not a tour, not a resumption, simply two evenings in a bowl in the hills.
The guest roster functions as a kind of genealogy. The Black Crowes and Jerry Cantrell represent the generation that absorbed Aerosmith's swagger and returned it heavier; Slash, Duff McKagan and Tom Morello supply the Los Angeles lineage; Heart and Billy Idol the contemporaries; Eric Church the Nashville inheritance; and Run-D.M.C. the single most consequential handshake in the band's commercial history, the 1986 reworking of Walk This Way that dragged rap onto rock radio and simultaneously rescued Aerosmith from obsolescence. That the lineup will differ nightly, with some names withheld until showtime, converts the shows into something closer to a variable ritual than a concert.
Beneath the celebration lies an unresolved physical question. Steven Tyler has lived with sustained vocal cord damage for roughly three years, an injury that ended the farewell tour and has limited him to a handful of live appearances since September 2023. Joe Perry's account earlier in the year was notably unsentimental: a full year of rest before any attempt to stretch the cords again, and a band proceeding day by day. A voice built on controlled abrasion is precisely the instrument least able to tolerate scarring, which is why two curated nights with a rotating cast of singers is not merely a nostalgic flourish but a sensible architecture.
The sentimental detail belongs to the drum riser. Joey Kramer, who absented himself from the band's final touring iteration amid well documented friction, appears in the promotional photograph alongside Tyler, Perry, Brad Whitford and Tom Hamilton. For a group whose internal weather has been reported almost as diligently as its records, a complete original lineup standing in one frame carries more meaning than the guest list. Presales opened October 8, general sales October 10, and the only question left is whether two nights proves to be a coda or a prologue.
