Level 1 — Absolute Beginner
OpenAI has a new tool. It is called Dots. A Dot is a smart helper on the internet.
A Dot works all day and all night. You give it a job. It keeps working.
Each Dot has its own computer in the cloud. You can open it and see what the Dot is doing.
You can send a message to a Dot. You can also call it.
- tool
- a thing that helps you do a job
- helper
- a person or thing that helps
- internet
- the world network of computers
- cloud
- computers far away that you use through the internet
- job
- a task to do

Level 2 — Elementary
OpenAI has launched Dots, new AI agents that are always on. The company showed them at its DevDay conference for developers.
Dots are powered by GPT-6 Astra. Each one works on a cloud computer of its own, and the user can open that computer at any time to watch what the agent is doing.
A person can give a Dot a goal and let it keep going without checking every step. It can reach more than 4,000 apps through plugins and learns what its owner likes from feedback.
You can message or call a Dot in ChatGPT on a computer, on the web or on a phone. It also works in Slack and Teams.
- agent
- a program that can act and finish tasks for you
- always on
- working all the time
- developer
- a person who builds software
- goal
- something you want to achieve
- plugin
- a small add-on that connects another app
- feedback
- comments that help you improve
- owner
- the person something belongs to

Level 3 — Intermediate
OpenAI has unveiled Dots, always on agents inside ChatGPT, at its DevDay conference. Each agent is powered by GPT-6 Astra and operates from a cloud computer of its own that the user can open at any time to see exactly what it is doing.
The pitch is autonomy. A user can hand a Dot a goal and let it carry the work forward without direction at every step, even while it juggles other projects. It can reach more than 4,000 apps through OpenAI's plugins, and it learns its owner's preferences from feedback.
At launch, Dots are available to ChatGPT Pro and Business Premium customers in eligible markets, excluding the European Economic Area, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Enterprise, Education and Healthcare customers get a beta. Each user receives one Dot, included in the subscription, with several Dots and a Microsoft Agent 365 integration on the roadmap.
You can message or call your agent in ChatGPT on desktop, web or mobile, or reach it in Slack and Teams.

Level 4 — Advanced
OpenAI's Dots, introduced at DevDay, mark a shift from chatbots that answer to agents that persist. Each is an always on assistant in ChatGPT, powered by GPT-6 Astra, with a dedicated cloud computer that the user can open at any moment to inspect its work. That transparency is the product's most interesting design choice.
The promise is delegation without supervision. A user hands over a goal; the agent pursues it across more than 4,000 apps reachable through OpenAI's plugins, juggles parallel projects, and refines its behaviour from the owner's feedback. It can be messaged or called in ChatGPT on desktop, web or mobile, or reached through Slack and Teams, so it meets people where they already work.
The rollout is cautious. Dots reach ChatGPT Pro and Business Premium customers in eligible markets, excluding the EEA, Switzerland and the United Kingdom at the Pro launch, with a beta for Enterprise, Education and Healthcare. Each user gets one Dot included in the subscription; multiple Dots and a Microsoft Agent 365 integration remain on the roadmap.
The exclusions hint at the regulatory friction that persistent agents will meet. An assistant that watches, remembers and acts on a user's behalf raises questions about consent, data handling and accountability that will shape how widely, and how quickly, this model spreads.
- persist
- to continue to exist or operate
- dedicated
- set aside for one particular purpose
- transparency
- openness that lets others see how something works
- delegation
- giving someone else a task to carry out
- supervision
- watching over work to make sure it is done properly
- rollout
- the gradual release of a product
- friction
- resistance or difficulty caused by rules or conflict
- accountability
- responsibility for one's actions and their results
