Level 1 — Absolute Beginner
Iran says it has a plan. The plan is to open the Strait of Hormuz again. The strait is a narrow sea road for oil ships.
Iran's top diplomat is Abbas Araghchi. He says talks with Qatar made the plan faster. Iran could open the strait in two days.
But Iran wants something first. It wants the United States to end some sanctions. It wants fewer US soldiers in the region. It also wants its frozen money back.
Iran is not sure when the talks will end. The world is waiting. Many ships need this sea road.

Level 2 — Elementary
On Saturday, Iran's foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, said talks with Qatari mediators had produced a plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within two days. The plan only works if the United States meets Tehran's conditions.
Iran listed those conditions. It wants sanctions lifted that were imposed after what it calls the Islamabad memorandum. It wants the United States to reduce its forces in the region. It also wants frozen funds released, including about six billion dollars held in Qatar.
An Iranian delegation, including a deputy to Mr Araghchi, is in Qatar for talks. A Qatari delegation went to Tehran on Friday. Mr Araghchi also said Iran had studied a letter from US Vice President JD Vance and called the American outreach a "positive step".
The danger has not gone away. The United States says it is enforcing a naval blockade of Iranian ports, while Iran says it controls the strait. Mr Araghchi said he did not know if the Qatar-led talks have a deadline.

Level 3 — Intermediate
Iran's foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, said on Saturday that talks with Qatari mediators had shortened the time Tehran needs to carry out its proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. According to Al Jazeera's reporting, the plan would reopen the waterway within two days, provided Washington accepts Tehran's conditions.
Those conditions are demanding. Mr Araghchi said they include lifting the sanctions imposed after the Islamabad memorandum and reducing American forces in the region. Iran also wants its frozen assets released, among them roughly six billion dollars held in Qatar.
Diplomacy is moving on several tracks at once. An Iranian delegation that includes one of Mr Araghchi's deputies is in Qatar, following a reported breakthrough in indirect negotiations between Tehran and Washington. A Qatari delegation travelled to Tehran on Friday. Mr Araghchi said Iran had studied a letter from US Vice President JD Vance and described the outreach as a "positive step"; the security official Mohsen Rezaei called the change in tone a "very positive sign".
Yet the military picture is unchanged. The United States says it is enforcing a naval blockade of Iranian ports, while Iran claims control over the strait and continues to claim attacks on shipping there. Mr Araghchi told reporters he did not know whether the Qatar-led talks were working to a specific timeframe, a reminder that a two-day plan on paper is not yet a two-day plan in practice.

Level 4 — Advanced
Iran's foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, told Al Jazeera on Saturday that mediation by Qatar had compressed the timetable for implementing Tehran's proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz: the waterway, he said, could be open within two days if Washington satisfies Iran's conditions. The assertion is conditional, and the conditions are far from modest.
By his account they include the lifting of sanctions imposed in the wake of the so-called Islamabad memorandum, a reduction in United States forces across the region, and the release of frozen funds, among them roughly six billion dollars held in Qatar. Taken together they amount to a request that Washington relax economic pressure and military posture simultaneously, in exchange for restoring a passage that Iran itself has contested.
The diplomatic scaffolding is nonetheless real. An Iranian delegation, including a deputy to Mr Araghchi, is in Doha after what a Qatari newspaper described as a breakthrough in indirect talks with the Americans, and Qatari envoys were in Tehran on Friday. Mr Araghchi said Iran had studied a letter from Vice President JD Vance and characterised the overture as a "positive step"; Mohsen Rezaei, the security chief, called the shift in tone a "very positive sign".
Against that, the facts on the water remain stubborn. Washington says it is enforcing a naval blockade of Iranian ports, Tehran asserts control of the strait and continues to claim attacks on shipping there, and Mr Araghchi conceded that he did not know whether the Qatar-led talks operate to any fixed timetable. The gap between a two-day blueprint and a negotiated settlement is, for now, precisely the size of the conditions Iran has attached to it.
