Privacy Policy

SpeakBase ("the App") is a language learning platform operated by SafotSheli ("we", "us", "our"), a business registered in Israel, located at 2 Beni Berman St., Ir Yamim Business Tower, 9th Floor, Netanya, Israel. SafotSheli is the controller of the personal information described in this policy. We are committed to protecting the privacy of our users ("you", "your"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information when you use the App.

We collect the following types of information: • Account Information: When you sign in via Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from your Google account. • Learning Data: Your flashcard progress, quiz scores, spaced repetition data (SmartMemory™‎), study streaks, and drill performance analytics. • Usage Data: Pages visited, features used, session duration, device type, browser type, and IP address. • Teacher Data: If you are a teacher, we collect class information, quiz sets you create, and student assignment data. • Payment Information: If you subscribe to Premium, your payment is handled by Dodo Payments (our reseller and Merchant of Record for customers outside Israel) or by PayMe (for customers in Israel). They receive your payment details, billing email and country; we receive confirmation of the payment and your plan. We do not store credit card details. • Conversations with your AI tutor: when you talk with Kate or Leo, your voice is sent live to our AI provider to run the conversation. We do not keep audio recordings. We keep a written transcript of the conversation, the corrections your tutor gave you, and a few short notes about you (for example your interests or what you want to practise) so your next lesson can continue where you left off. • Documents you upload: if you upload a CV or study material for a lesson, it is read once to prepare that lesson and is not stored.

We use your information to: • Provide and personalize the learning experience, including SmartMemory™‎ spaced repetition scheduling. • Track your progress and generate learning analytics. • Communicate important updates about the App. • Improve our services based on aggregated usage patterns. • Process Premium subscription payments. • Enable teacher-student features such as class management and assignments. • Write your lesson summary, remember what you talked about and plan your next lesson. • Send you personal practice reminders based on your last lesson. • Check the quality of lessons and fix problems in how the tutor teaches. Legal bases: we use your information to perform our contract with you (providing the App and your subscription), for our legitimate interests (keeping the App secure, improving lessons and measuring our marketing), with your consent where the law requires it (for example advertising cookies), and to meet legal obligations (such as tax and accounting records).

Conversation transcripts are deleted automatically after 90 days. The corrections and short notes about you are kept while your account is active, so your tutor can help with the mistakes you keep making. Email addresses, links and long numbers (such as phone numbers) are removed from transcripts, and the notes we keep about you never include health details or contact details. Transcripts are used only to run and improve your lessons. Our team may read them to check lesson quality and fix problems. You can ask us at any time to stop saving your conversation transcripts and corrections, or to delete the ones we hold, by writing to support@speakbase.io. Your lessons keep working either way.

Your data is stored on secure servers provided by Supabase and Vercel, with data centers located in regions that comply with applicable data protection standards. We implement industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (TLS/SSL), secure authentication via Google Identity Services, and access controls to protect your data.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We may share data with: • Service Providers: Supabase (database), Vercel (hosting), Google (sign-in, the AI that runs live conversations, and speech), Anthropic (AI that writes lesson summaries and personal reminders from your conversations), SendGrid (email), Dodo Payments (our reseller and Merchant of Record for purchases outside Israel, which uses your data as described in its own privacy notice), PayMe (payments in Israel) and our accounting provider, solely to operate the App. These providers process data on our behalf under their terms for business customers, and may do so outside your country. Where your data is transferred outside your country, we rely on the safeguards these providers offer, such as the standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission. • Professional advisers: our lawyers and accountants, where needed. • Teachers: If you are a student in a class, your teacher can see your assignment submissions and progress within that class. • Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by Israeli law or valid legal process.

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and remember your preferences (such as language selection). We also use analytics and advertising tools (Google Analytics, Meta Pixel and TikTok Pixel) that set cookies to measure visits and the results of our ads. These tools may receive information about your device and browser, the pages you visit, and events such as signing up or subscribing. When you subscribe, we may also send Meta an encrypted (hashed) version of your email address to measure ad results. You can block these cookies in your browser settings; the App keeps working.

SpeakBase may be used by minors under supervision of their teachers or parents. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental or teacher consent. If you believe a child has provided us personal information without appropriate consent, please contact us.

Under the Israeli Privacy Protection Act (1981) and applicable regulations, you have the right to: • Access the personal information we hold about you. • Request correction of inaccurate information. • Request deletion of your account and associated data. • Withdraw consent for data processing. To exercise these rights, contact us at support@speakbase.io. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you also have the right to data portability, to object to or restrict processing, and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law. Conversation transcripts are deleted automatically after 90 days, as described in section 4.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via the App or email. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
