Tampa Bay struck first and hard, scoring four times in the opening inning with the help of run-scoring singles from Chandler Simpson and Junior Caminero. Milwaukee starter Logan Henderson lasted just three innings, but five relievers then shut the Rays out. The Brewers closed the gap in the fourth when Rays first baseman Jonathan Aranda misplayed a ground ball, allowing Pratt to score from third.
Sal Frelick tied the game with a solo home run in the sixth, and Cooper Pratt's single in the seventh gave Milwaukee its first lead. Level 4 - Advanced
For one inning, Game 2 looked like a rout. Tampa Bay scored four times in the first, helped by run-scoring singles from Chandler Simpson and Junior Caminero, and Milwaukee starter Logan Henderson lasted only three innings. Yet the Brewers, who had edged the Rays 3 to 2 in Game 1, did what has defined their October: they refused to panic and won 5 to 4 to go up 2 to 0 in the World Series.
The turn came through patience and a little help from the other side. Five relievers kept Tampa Bay scoreless after the first inning, and in the fourth Rays first baseman Jonathan Aranda misplayed a ground ball, allowing Cooper Pratt to score from third. Sal Frelick tied the game with a solo homer in the sixth, and Pratt's single in the seventh delivered the first Brewers lead of the night.
Aaron Ashby sealed it in the ninth by striking out Yandy Diaz with the tying run on third base. Milwaukee, in its first World Series since 1982, now holds a commanding edge heading into Game 3 on Monday on FOX. Teams that go up 2 to 0 usually win the title, though the Rays will point out that they have just shown how thin the margin can be.
